A Nasty Surprise - Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SE
A Nasty Surprise
2016 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SE
A few months ago my mum announced she needed a new car. I'd told her this about a year ago, and that she needed a Ford. As a result, mum announced she was going to look at a Vauxhall.
This leads us on to the Vauxhall Corsa. A car I do not like because I am a narrow minded Ford man who would never buy a Vauxhall. That was until I got into the Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SE. Please dont mention this to anyone, but it is fanastic! The Corsa has many toys and gadgets, such as a touch screen multi-media system, cruise control, heated everything and Bluetooth. It also had On Start which according to the Vauxhall Mokka advert will be nearly as effective as Lynx Africa at attracting beautiful women to an otherwise boring man. As I understand it, On Start creates a mobile WiFi hotspot around your car and will call the emergency services in a crash all in exchange for a small monthly fee. Basically, everything the mobile phone in your pocket already does.
In the cabin the seats are comfy, there is plenty of headroom but some idiot in the design department has chosen to make part of the dashboard Piano Black in colour. This colour is designed exclusively to attract and collect dust, first pioneered on the Playstation 3. What this means is I cant tell you much more about the interior as I spent all my time in the car wiping dust of the dash to satisfy the OCD I developed.
To drive, the Corsa is very much as you would expect. It's easy to manouver, the steering is very light at low speed and it will comfortably sit at seventy on the motorway. While the chassis and suspension are much improved over the older models you cant help but think it is not a drivers car. It is not as responsive
In summary, the Corsa is an excellent little car that has come on leaps and bounds from the earlier model. It's exactly the car it needs to be in the modern world, just make sure you always have a cloth to hand whilst driving!

Being the car snob that I am, I had to step in and promptly arranged a vist to the local Ford dealership so we could go in, buy a Fiesta and all would be well. It would be brilliant as mum would have her new car and I would have access to a brand new Fiesta to steal at weekends.
However, it was not to be. The salesman did an excellent job of convincing us not to buy a new Fiesta and face the depreciation, but to buy a used car in the colour mum did not want. And to top it off he tried to sell us one without a spare wheel (more on that nonsense another day).

or taught as its rival Fiesta. This car has been designed to get from A to B without any fuss, but on the flipside it manages to do without any fun too.
Now we come to the bit we really can't ignore. The price. Compared to a Ford Fiesta, the Corsa is an absolute bargain. It also has more features you actually want like heated seats and steering wheel, a sensible dash layout and a decent stereo. If you're old fashioned like me you'll be dissapointed by the lack of CD player, although that is becoming quite normal now.
In summary, the Corsa is an excellent little car that has come on leaps and bounds from the earlier model. It's exactly the car it needs to be in the modern world, just make sure you always have a cloth to hand whilst driving!
